Welcome to

Established in 2018 by Gairika Mathur, Nritya Alaap was conceived with a singular mission: to disseminate the profound knowledge and exquisite beauty of Odissi, an Indian classical dance form, while concurrently fostering artistic excellence across diverse platforms. Guided by the belief that dance possesses the transformative power to empower individuals and enhance their lives, Nritya Alaap is deeply engaged in educational and therapeutic contexts, extending the benefits of movement and creativity to society as a whole.

Nritya Alaap's core activities encompass weekly classes catering to both children and adults, offering comprehensive instruction in the art of Odissi dance. Under the expert guidance of Gairika Mathur, these one-hour sessions encompass a holistic approach, encompassing body conditioning exercises, fundamental Odissi techniques, in-depth theoretical knowledge, and the learning of new choreographic pieces. An exciting opportunity awaits the students to showcase their skills at the annual event "Odissi Sandhya," held every June.

"Nrityalaap has turned my childhood dream of learning classical dance into a reality. Gairika, our teacher, is amazing. I was initially hesitant, but after a year, I've not only gained confidence but also earned my 1st year diploma.

What sets Nrityalaap apart is the sense of community among a diverse group of students, from working professionals to stay-at-home moms, youngest one to old one. It's a place where dreams take flight, and we've become a close-knit dance family. Gairika's dedication and vision make it more than just a dance class – it's a pathway to personal growth and empowerment. I wholeheartedly recommend Nrityalaap to fellow dance enthusiasts."

Millions of thanks to Gairika who made me believe that I can transform my dance style at a late age and taught with extreme patience (whilst I would find any chance to be disobedient or skip classes and practice). Also, there is always a feeling and bond of "we" and "us" in the dance group, albeit few of us meet only once or twice in a year with everyone for performances, being far apart.

A mere "Thank you" is never adequate to Rajat and Gairika.

Being here at the Odissi Concert organised by Nritya Alaap is amazing. Seeing all the performers wearing this beautiful costume and the way they performed in front of all the audience shows how much confidence they have and how much great training they have been given by Gairika just shows our trust and values in our children and heritage is something that will always pay dividence and I want to make sure it continues and becomes great success and bigger and bigger going forward as well

The Odissi Concert was absolutely amazing. It's bringing the culture back in UK, the multicultural country where everyone is seen as equal. This made me feel as if I was in India, I was mesmerised with the level of depth in telling the story with their dance and expression, I absolutely adored it. I would definitely look forward to attend their next concert.
